Get started on the Kingsway!

Plaid Cymru Assembly Member, Dai Lloyd, has today tried to seek assurances from the Welsh Government that the redevelopment of Swansea's Kingsway isn't going to fall by the wayside. Swansea City and County Council as well as the Welsh Government had long ago announced the project to transform the Kingsway into a "business district" or "employment hub". Months on however, little work appears to have been carried out.

This area of Swansea is in desperate need of regeneration which is why Dai Lloyd, who represents South Wales West, tabled a question to the Labour Cabinet secretary for Communities during the Assembly's questions session today.

Unfortunately, due to time constraints, the question wasn't able to be put. However, the question would have aimed to gain an update on the work and clarity on the next steps. This would hopefully have allowed local people as well as businesses to feel a bit more confident that the project is in fact moving ahead as planned.

Though progress on this project has been frustratingly slow to date, Dai Lloyd and the Plaid Cymru team are determined to put pressure on the government and the City Council to press ahead with the regeneration so that no part of Swansea is left behind.

This regeneration has the potential to either create many new jobs and breathe new life into the Kingsway, or it could become the next chapter in a long story of good regeneration ideas which have in the end amounted to nothing.
