UK Government Must Give Backing To Tidal Lagoon 'Without Delay'
Swansea-based AM Dai Lloyd has called on the Conservative UK Government to bring forward plans for implementation of the Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon “without delay” following today’s publication of the Henry review.
The Plaid AM welcomed news that the review into tidal energy recommends that the Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon should be given the go-ahead.
Dr. Lloyd stated:
“Many of us have been lobbying for the development of this tidal lagoon for over ten years. The findings of the Henry review confirm what many have been saying for years – Wales is rife for this type of sustainable energy production, and it can stack up financially.
“What we need now is for the Conservative UK Government to make a positive statement and back this scheme, bringing forward plans without delay.
“This is a significant opportunity to put Swansea and Wales on the map as a leader in developing innovative renewable energy solutions.
“The economic potential in terms of creating jobs and expertise in this area is significant and the UK Government needs to grasp this opportunity with both hands. Wales is in desperate need of an economic boost, and this is precisely the type of scheme that can deliver that boost.”
