Plaid call for re-opening of Cockett and Landore railway stations as Welsh Government review gathers

Plaid Cymru has called on the Welsh Government to ensure that Cockett and Landore railway stations are opened as part of a review of railway stations in Wales.

The Welsh Government is currently in the process for prioritising proposals for new railway stations in Wales.

The assessment is following a three-stage approach, and both the Cockett and Landore proposals have reached the second stage, after the initial list of 46 proposed stations has been whittled down to 12.

The stage two assessment will look in more detail at the strength of the financial and economic case for a new railway station.

Plaid AM Dr. Dai Lloyd stated:

“The Welsh Government must take this opportunity to re-open the Cockett and Landore stations. It makes sense, not only because it makes it easier and more convenient for residents and visitors, but also because it would reduce congestion at High Street and the city centre.

Plaid’s Cockett Council candidate Tricia Sanderson added: “Plaid has been calling for the re-opening of Cockett station for over 20 years, and many residents in the area have supported those calls.

“It would clearly be more convenient for people in the Cockett area, and residents in the North and West of the City when using the train, and I would urge the Labour Welsh Government to deliver for the people of Swansea.
