Plaid Cymru's Dai Lloyd had this to say about UK investment in Welsh rail

Plaid Cymru’s Shadow Cabinet Secretary Dai Lloyd AM has called on the UK Government to bring forward additional funding for the re-opening of train stations in Wales following today’s announcement that Bow Street station in Aberystwyth is to be re-opened.

Dr. Lloyd stated:

“While the re-opening of Bow Street station near Aberystwyth is to be welcomed, the UK Government should be doing much more to invest in Wales’ rail infrastructure.

“Wales only receives 1 percent of Network Rail’s capital investment programme, even though we have 6 percent of the UK’s track length.

“There are very many stations through-out Wales which need to be re-opened, and the UK Government need to fundamentally change their attitude with regards to rail investment in Wales.

“Re-opening one rail station in mid-Wales does not undo the tragic and quite frankly embarrassing level of investment that the UK Government is putting forward in Wales.

“This announcement in no way makes up for the slap in the face that Wales received last week by scrapping the electrification of the South Wales line to Swansea. The UK Government needs to significantly up their game, or devolve the issue of rail infrastructure to the National Assembly so that we can do a proper job ourselves.”
