Plaid will oppose Labour plans to raise bus pass age
Welsh Government sets out consultation document on future of mandatory fares scheme
Plaid Cymru’s Transport spokesperson Dai Lloyd AM has criticised the Labour Welsh Government over consultation plans to raise the eligibility age for the elderly concessionary fares scheme.
The plans were outlined in Ken Skates’ statement this afternoon at the National Assembly.
Dai Lloyd stated:
“It is clear from today’s statement that the Labour Welsh Government is intent on changing the eligibility age for the concessionary fare scheme.
“I am very concerned by the tone of the Labour Welsh Government’s statement, which along with the consultation document clearly shows the direction of travel here – they want to increase the eligibility age to free bus travel.
“The Labour Welsh Government’s support for this scheme is clearly wavering.
“For these vulnerable groups, the elderly, the disabled and some injured service veterans, this concessionary travel scheme is vital in terms of tackling isolation and increasing social interaction. Any attempts to diminish or reduce the provision in this area will be opposed in the strongest possible terms by Plaid.”
