Back the Friends of Morriston Park
Plaid Cymru’s South Wales West Assembly Member, Dr Dai Lloyd, is urging people to get behind the Friends of Morriston Park funding bid.
The Aviva Community Fund grants funding for projects which have a positive impact on their local community and the Friends of Morriston Park have stated that if they are successful in their bid, they will use the money to rejuvenate the Children's Garden Play Area with a new, wheelchair accessible pathway, flower beds, plants, shrubs, picnic benches and an arched entrance.
Dr Lloyd praised the work of the Friends of Morriston Park. “The entire team is a credit to the local community. This funding would provide the opportunity to really rejuvenate the park and build on the work already completed.
“I urge everyone to go online and give their votes to the Friends of Morriston Park bid. Let’s help improve what is already a cherished community asset.”
Chair of the Friends of Morriston Park, Steffan Phillips, added:
“When Morriston Park opened in 1912, it was the largest park in Swansea and many people flocked here from all parts of the city as well as from further afield. We want to make Morriston, once again, a flagship urban park and major tourist attraction in Swansea.
“Great progress has been made rejuvenating the garden surrounding our Grade 2 listed War Memorial and we would now like to rejuvenate the Children's Garden Play Area with a new, wheelchair accessible pathway, flower beds, plants, shrubs, picnic benches and an arched entrance.
“Our vision for Morriston Park is bold, exciting and ambitious, but also realistic. The changes we want to make will make this potentially amazing facility more attractive and accessible to people of all backgrounds, bringing more people into the park who currently cannot or do not use it.”
