AM urges people to protect Morriston Hospital

Swansea site is ideally placed to become centre of medical excellence

Plaid’s South Wales West AM Dai Lloyd has urged members of the public to contribute towards the consultation over the future of Trauma services in South Wales, arguing that Morriston Hospital should be chosen as the new site for the Major Trauma Centre.

Dr. Lloyd has stated

“I believe that Abertawe Bro Morgannwg Health Board put forward a very strong bid to site the Major Trauma Centre at Morriston Hospital, Swansea. With a first rate burns and plastics centre, and a greater proportion of the south Wales population living within an hour’s travelling time of Morriston Hospital, it is ideally located.

“What we are seeing in terms of our health service is a centralisation of specialist services, with Cardiff usually being favoured. There is a significant population in Mid, South West and West Wales who are seeing more and more services being moved further away from them. Morriston Hospital, with its central location and good access, is ideally placed to be developed as a centre of medical excellence.

“Now that the consultation period is open, I would urge members of the public to put forward their views.”
