Plaid AM Calls on Welsh Government to Call in Gower Plans

Proposals not in keeping with ANOB says Dr Lloyd

Plaid Cymru AM for South Wales West, Dr Dai Lloyd has written to Welsh Government Minister Julie James asking to call in proposed developments on the Gower Peninsular, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Dr Lloyd wrote to the Welsh Government following Gower residents raising their concerns regarding proposals for Stella Maris near Pennard and Higher Lane, Mumbles.

Speaking in relation to the planning applications Dr Lloyd stated:

“Residents have raised concerns regarding the proposed development of 33 properties on land coming off Higher Lane in Mumbles. The access to the area is currently a winding single track lane that many feel would not be suitable for the amount of vehicles that will come with these new houses. There is also a pathway to Limeslade Bay which is well used by locals and tourists alike.”

“Further to these proposals, I have also received concerns surrounding the proposals for ‘Stella Maris’ near Pennard to be returned to a dwelling. Again there are concerns surrounding access to this property that have been brought to my attention by local residents.”

Dr Lloyd has also in recent weeks raised concerns surrounding the proposed development of 70 properties in the village of Pennard, writing to Swansea Council with concerns from residents of the village.

“These proposals all sit entirely within the Gower ANOB and as such we must ensure that they do not adversely affect the local area. The new LDP for the City and County of Swansea has yet to be approved and we cannot allow these plans to sneak in under the radar.”
