Plaid AM Wants Neath Plans to Become Reality

We’ve seen enough artists impressions says Dr Lloyd AM

Plaid Cymru AM for South Wales West, Dr Dai Lloyd has welcomed the latest set of plans in the long running regeneration of Neath town centre. Plans approved by the Regeneration & Sustainable Development committee have now been passed on to planning for approval.

Neath residents have been long awaiting substantial investment in the town centre since 2008, where plans that included a golden rugby ball hosting a museum in the centre were unveiled by the council. Since then numerous plans have been drawn up and scrapped, leading to frustration from local people. Commenting on the latest set of plans to be released, Dr Lloyd stated,

“I hope that after 11 years from the first set of plans being drawn up the regeneration of Neath town centre will finally take place. Like the vast majority of town centres in Wales, Neath has faced problems with bigger chains leaving and footfall falling, but I hope that this long overdue investment will revitalise the town centre and attract people from across south Wales to this historic market town.”

“For too long we have seen various artists impressions only for the plans to be shelved by the authority, but now we need to see ground broken on this development. Neath deserves investment and I hope that we will finally see work begin on the project, even if it is without the iconic gold rugby ball.”
