Plaid AM Slams First Cymru for Bus Services failure

Dr Dai Lloyd, Plaid Cymru AM for South Wales West has called for a more reliable bus service from First Cymru in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot.

First Cymru runs the majority of services in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot, and Dr. Lloyd has received specific complaints recently with regards to one service failing to turn up three times within one week in Townhill, Swansea.

Dr Lloyd commented on the issue of First Cymru buses not turning up in Swansea, stating;

“I have received representations from across South Wales West regarding the unreliable service currently being offered by First Cymru.

A complaint from Townhill stated that one service to Swansea failed to turn up three times within the space of a week, meaning that people are late for work and missing appointments. This is clearly unacceptable.”

Dr Lloyd stated that this was a problem across the region and called on the Welsh Government to ensure a more reliable service.

“It’s not only in Townhill that First Cymru buses not turning up is an issue, as I have also received complaints from Penclawdd and Tonna.

It is that their near monopoly in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot allows them to run a sub-standard service and that it must come to an end.

I am disappointed that the Labour Welsh Government have not done more to make sure people in the south west are able to get to work and appointments on time. Plaid Cymru has spoken of the need to set up a bus service run by the public sector.”
