Dr Dai Lloyd MS letter to Swansea Council following Killay floods

Dear Mr Roberts,

As Member of the Senedd, I have received representations from from concerned residents regarding flooding in the Wimmerfield Avenue area of Killlay which took place on Thursday 18th June 2020.

Residents have informed me that heavy rain over a sustained period led to large volumes of water cascading down from Derlwyn and damaging properties in Wimmerfield Avenue. I have been informed of some residents who needed to be evacuated that are still not able to return to their properties.

I am also told that sewage ended up in the flood waters, which quite clearly is a threat to public health. With further heavy rain forecast residents are concerned that they will be faced with their properties being flooded twice in a short space of time.

I would value your guidance as to what works are being undertaken to ensure drains and culverts are sufficiently cleared to ensure there is minimal risk of further flooding and what other steps the Council is taking to mitigate the risks posed by future floods.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Dai Lloyd MS
